Don’t Allow your Emotions to Dictate the Outcome
When I think of the way we are in the world we live in today. My thoughts are drawn toward a roller coaster. One minute it’s all good and the next is not good. I work in a high school setting and, my goodness, it is topsy-turvy every single day. You can almost never predict how the day is going to go. To say the very least, we deal with unpredictable days on a regular. For certain, this is a real-life depiction of the world today.
The reality is, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own". (Matt 6:34) However, the word also mentions, “For there is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off". (Prov 23:18)
I believe, hope is a perspective that we have from Jesus. Seeing what God has revealed, and already said in his word. Once, you are convinced of what he has said then that’s when hope shows up. Hope gives “beauty for ashes, oil for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Hope causes us to be called trees of righteousness (strong and magnificent, in right standing) the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3) This perspective is not based on feelings; it’s based in truth. The truth that sets us free, free from:
1. Wrong thinking
2. Wrong perception
3. Wrong understanding
4. Wrong actions
5. Wrong reactions
The accountability that comes with knowing the truth will in fact check our “Emotions”. See, when we are dealing with different or difficult circumstances we can make wrong decisions. Decisions based in our emotions that will produce absolutely no fruit. At least, not the fruit that will last. It may produce some rotten fruit.
“I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in Him bears much fruit, for (otherwise) apart from Me {that is, cut off from the vital union with Me} you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a {broken off} branch, withers and dies.” 7) If you remain in Me and my words remain in you {that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart}, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.”(John15:5,7)
Jesus says, “I have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, that your joy may be made full and complete and overflowing.” (John 15:11)
Getting back to Emotions and the Outcome:
When we move in our emotions, we pretty much miss it every time and then there is a need to come back, apologize, reiterate or repair the damage.
If we would take a moment, think it over, consult the Holy Spirit on the inside of us. We can then apply wisdom to the situation. We can use “knowledge from on High” which will guide into all truth. When the Holy Spirit, “who is truth, comes, he shall guide you into all truth, for he will not be presenting his own ideas, but will be passing on to you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. “He shall praise me and bring me great honor by showing you my glory.” (John 16:13-14)
Our Emotions are not the Truth!! The reality of it is real, yes, it is. “I feel some kinda way, about what happened.” Which is probably justified and valid. But moving out of this place can create issues you may not want to deal with later. Simply because the emotions/feelings are subject to change at any given moment. And moving in this place is not wise.
So, take a moment:
· Breathe
· Step back
· Take a walk
· Walk away
· Gather yourself
· Say “A Prayer”
· Listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit on the inside of you
Then your outcome won’t be dictated by your emotions. It will be rooted and grounded in the revelation that Jesus gives you. Sometimes the situation isn’t about you, you just became an outlet for someone. In order to get this information or insight you must be in tune and connected to the vine, which will reveal all truth. Some truth isn’t revealed until you need it that’s why the word states,
"For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open".
(Luke 12:2-3)
"But whoever practices the truth comes into the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works are done in God" (John 3:21)
"So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known". (Matt 10: 26)
Our emotional state can be altered by outside forces. The fickle and finickiness of those around us can cause and wreak havoc on our psychic. The Bless thing about this, is we have an advocate. Someone who sees and knows what we are experiencing and the attacks on our life. He reminds u, “for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
(Eph 6:12)
The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10) He’s coming for your emotions, your mental state to be shaken, and self-doubt to creep in therefore, stealing our joy, and peace.
Our outcome is solely based in our relationship with Jesus. Where we land is already sorted out in the heavenlies. “Brothers and sisters, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:2-5)
Don’t allow your emotions to dictate the outcome!
Thank you, sweet Jesus that we can count on you and not on our emotions. We are better when we focus on you and what your word says concerning our situation. Thank for being the “lifter of our head, our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in the time of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
In Jesus name, Amen
